WINSTED, CT – October 8, 2021 – “Rock Roll & Soul” featuring works by Massachusetts artist/designer, Jim Bremer, is available for viewing at the Founders Hall Gallery from October 18 through December 10.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, The Founders Hall Gallery is temporarily closed to the general public; however, it is open to our campus community of faculty, students and staff. All are welcome to join us for a “Virtual” conversation with the artist via WebEx from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm on Wednesday, November 10.

Jim Bremer’s professional life has been dedicated to the visual arts, especially design and photography. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Graphic Design and Photography from Missouri State University in 1974 and in 2005, received MSU’s Alumni of the Year Award for his career achievements in the graphic arts. His forty-year career has spanned four Fortune 500 companies including Hasbro of East Longmeadow, MA. Now retired from the design industry, he is currently devoting his time to creating large format digital collages. His lifelong love for music and the personalities responsible for it drive his desire to create art. His work has appeared in numerous art shows across the country. Jim resides with his wife, Ruth Buffington, in East Longmeadow, MA.

Artist’s Statement

The ten portraits exhibited here are part of a fifty-piece series depicting iconic and legendary singers and musicians. In November of 2020 I set a goal to do one portrait per week and to complete the project in a year.  My objective was to continuously explore techniques and processes and develop a personal style.

With a background in graphic design and photography, and expertise in Photoshop, I knew a lot about shaping and reconfiguring digital assets. About a month into the project, I used the term “digital collage” to describe what I was doing. A traditional collage is an artistic composition made of various materials (such as paper, cloth, or wood) glued on a surface. I’m doing the same thing in a digital format with repurposed photographic textures and graphic patterns.
