Winsted – CT State Northwestern is pleased to announce Biology and Chemistry Professor, Sharon Gusky, has
been awarded a prestigious Fulbright Specialist Program Award, which will allow her to complete a project at
Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science and Technology in Sonipat, India. The program aims to exchange
knowledge and establish partnerships benefiting participants, institutions, and communities both in the United
States and overseas through a variety of educational and training activities within biology education.
The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S.
government and is designed to build lasting connections between the United States and other countries.
Recipients of Fulbright Specialist awards are selected on the basis of academic and professional achievement,
demonstrated leadership in their field, and their potential to foster long-term cooperation between institutions
in the U.S. and abroad. Gusky is one of more than 400 U.S. citizens who share expertise with host institutions
abroad through the Fulbright Specialist Program each year, and only one of a few community college professors
participating in the program.
“I am honored to receive this award and very excited to participate in this flagship program,” said Gusky. “I look
forward to traveling to India and working with the students and faculty at Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University
of Science and Technology. I hope that my participation in the Fulbright Specialist Program encourages other
community college faculty to apply and expand their global connections.”
