Northwestern Offers Free Narcan and CPR Training

Winsted – CT State Northwestern, in collaboration with Greenwoods Counseling Services, is offering life-saving Naloxone (Narcan) and CPR training Wednesday, May 15, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the Draper Conference Center (lower level of the Learning Resource Center), 2 Park Place East, Winsted. The training is free, but you must be at least eighteen years old, a resident of Litchfield County, or a Northwestern student.

When administered correctly, the nasal spray Narcan restores breathing that has been dangerously slowed by an overdose of heroin or prescription painkillers. Narcan can work within a minute or two, giving emergency responders time to get the person to a hospital. Residents who participate in the free training learn how to recognize an overdose and how to administer Narcan, which is now available without a prescription. CPR increases the likelihood of a patient surviving a cardiac arrest when the heart stops beating or beats too ineffectively to circulate blood to the brain and other vital organs.

Space is limited and registration is required at Eventbrite – search; Narcan and CPR Training. For more information, contact Ruth Gonzalez at rgonzalez@nwcc.edu.
