Northwestern and Local Stop & Shop Partner to Raise Funds for Student Food Bank

WINSTED, CT – CT State Community College Northwestern is proud to announce they have been selected as a beneficiary of the Stop & Shop Community Bag Program throughout the month of February.

Northwestern’s Food for Thought student food pantry was selected by store leadership at the Winsted Stop & Shop, located at 200 New Hartford Road, Winsted. For the entire month of February, Food for Thought will receive $1.00 for every $2.50 reusable bag that is purchased at the Winsted location.

Food for Thought was established in 2017 to help curb student food insecurities on campus. To date, the pantry has served more than 460 students, with an average of 75 students a semester. The pantry is managed by faculty members Todd Bryda and Crystal Wiggins, who supervise student workers running the day-to-day operation. The pantry has also received generous support from Stop & Shop in the past through their community gift card program, donating many gift cards to supplement student needs.

“Professor Crystal Wiggins and I are absolutely thrilled and honored to have been selected,” said Bryda. “As co-managers of our student food pantry, we see the benefits that Stop & Shop provides to our students through its gift card program. We look forward to this new program and continued partnership. Like every other food pantry, every donation helps fight in our battle against food insecurity.”
