CT State Northwestern Presents War Resisters League Exhibit
Winsted – CT State Northwestern Community College will present the War Resisters League (WRL) 100th anniversary traveling exhibit Monday, September 16 through Friday, September 27. The exhibit will be on view in the library, 2 Park Place East, Winsted, and is free and open to the public.
Founded in 1923, WRL is the oldest secular pacifist organization in the United States and is affiliated with War Resisters’ International. Early members developed a militant pacifism that has been reshaped by the visions and strategies of each generation. Today’s members remain committed to revolutionary nonviolence to end war and its root causes, including racism, sexism, and other forms of exploitation.
The eight vertical panels of the exhibit feature 180 photos and graphics covering the 100-year history of nonviolent activism. The panels engage viewers to learn about war resistance from World War I to the present, as well as prison desegregation, gay power, Black Lives Matter, draft and tax resistance, feminist peace encampments, and more. The exhibit hopes the history presented will invite reflection on where we have been, as well as continue to inspire the ongoing efforts for peace and justice.
