Northwestern Connecticut Community College has several scholarship options available to students. Some are for students enrolled in certain programs. There are others available to those who have served in our armed forces before deciding to continue their education. If you decide to continue your education beyond NCCC, there is a scholarship for those students, as well. Check out all of the options here to see if you might be eligible to apply for one of these generous scholarships.

 

JOHN A. ALBANI SCHOLARSHIP

Northwest Community Bank established a scholarship in 2001 in memory of John A. Albani, the bank’s former Auditor and Security Officer. The scholarship is awarded annually to an incoming or NCCC continuing student enrolled in the Criminal Justice Program.

 

ATCHESON SCHOLARSHIPS

Raymond W. Atcheson Scholarship is awarded to either:

  • A NCCC graduate with a high cumulative grade point average who is transferring to a four-year college. Preference is given to a mathematics or science major and veteran of the armed forces. This scholarship was established in honor of a retired NCCC executive dean and Captain, U.S. Navy – Korea and Vietnam; or
  • A continuing student at NCCC who has a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0, preferably a mathematics or science major, is a veteran of the armed forces or is a single parent. This scholarship was established in honor of a retired NCCC executive dean and Captain, U.S. Navy – Korea and Vietnam.

 

George J. Atcheson Scholarship is awarded to a NCCC graduate with a high cumulative grade point average who is transferring to a four-year college. Preference is given to a mathematics or science major and veteran of the armed forces. This scholarship was established by Raymond W. Atcheson to honor his father T/SGT George J. Atcheson U.S. Army – WWII.

 

CARMINE E. CORNELIO SCHOLARSHIP

The Carmine E. Cornelio Scholarship, established in 2000, is awarded annually to a graduating Northwestern Connecticut Community College student, transferring to another senior level college or university, who has demonstrated high academic achievement and financial need.

SARINO AND MARGUERITE DIMAURO SCHOLARSHIP

The Sarino and Marguerite DiMauro Scholarship is awarded annually to a continuing, matriculated student who will be enrolled for a minimum of six credits at NCCC, has completed his/her first year of classes, has earned a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.50 and has demonstrated financial need. This scholarship will be awarded to an eligible student in the following order of preference:

  • To a deaf or hard of hearing student.
  • To a student enrolled in the Interpreter Preparation Program: ASL/English.
  • To a student enrolled in one of the following NCCC academic programs relating to the medical and public healthcare fields (i.e. Allied Health Administration, Medical Assisting, Physical Therapist Assistant, Human Services, Liberal Arts and Sciences: Psychology pathway).

 

JAMES L. AND SHIRLEY A. DRAPER SCHOLARSHIPS

The James L. and Shirley A. Draper Scholarships are awarded annually to continuing, matriculated students at Northwestern Connecticut Community College with demonstrated high academic standing and financial need. Recipients must be graduates of The Gilbert School or Northwestern Regional High School #7.

 

DRAPER SCHOLARS SCHOLARSHIPS

Draper Scholars Scholarships are awarded annually to new incoming NCCC students with demonstrated high academic standing and financial need. These scholarships fund full-time tuition and fees (excluding lab, studio, and/or clinical fees) for a period of two years (four semesters). Students must be enrolled full-time each semester. They must also maintain good academic and general standing at NCCC, as well as good citizenship in the community to continue his/her eligibility. Applicants must be graduates of The Gilbert School, Housatonic Valley Regional High School, Lewis S. Mills High School, Litchfield High School, Northwestern Regional High School District #7, Oliver Wolcott Technical School, Torrington High School or Wamogo Regional High School.

 

REGINA M. DUFFY SCHOLARSHIPS

A Regina M. Duffy Scholarship is awarded to a graduating NCCC student majoring in one of the natural sciences who is transferring to a four-year college or university.

Regina M. Duffy Scholarships (total of 4 awarded) are awarded to two full-time (12 credits or more) and two part-time (6-11 credits) continuing students who are returning to NCCC in the fall semester.

A Regina M. Duffy Scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating NCCC student who has maintained a cumulative grade point average of 2.50. Preference will be given to a student who has served in Afghanistan or Iraq. Students who are not veterans of Afghanistan or Iraq must demonstrate strong financial need to be considered for this scholarship award.

 

MARION WILLIAM EDWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS

Mrs. Alice Edwards of Torrington, in memory of her husband, Marion William Edwards, provided a fund to establish this scholarship in 2001. On an annual basis, two scholarships are awarded. One scholarship is awarded to a continuing student at NCCC majoring in Liberal Arts and Sciences. A second scholarship is awarded to a student who is graduating and transferring to another college or university and will be continuing his/her studies in Liberal Arts and Sciences. Preference is given to students majoring in Literature or Journalism.

 

PROFESSOR GREG HAGER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Professor Greg Hager Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating student with a major in Liberal Arts and Sciences and a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7.  Like Professor Hager, the award recipient must demonstrate a commitment to issues of social justice and a dedication to the liberal arts.  Evidence of such a commitment may include, but not be limited to, political activism, charity work, academic tutoring, volunteerism, etc.

 

NORTHWESTERN COMMUNITY COLLEGE FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

The Northwestern Community College Foundation Scholarship, established in 2000, is an annual award given to a matriculated student at Northwestern Connecticut Community College. Preference is given to students who have demonstrated academic merit and accomplishments.

 

NCCF NURSING SCHOLARSHIP

The NCCF Nursing Scholarship is awarded to the NCCC student with the highest cumulative grade point average who has applied, been accepted and enrolls in the Nursing program at Northwestern Connecticut Community College.

 

PHOENIX SCHOLARSHIP

In 2001, the Phoenix Companies created this scholarship to be awarded annually to a full-time student at NCCC, who is enrolled in the College’s Business and Management Administration program. Preference is given based on financial need and prior academic achievement.

 

MARY ELLEN SERAFINI SCHOLARSHIP

The Mary Ellen Serafini Scholarship was established in 1995 in memory of the dedicated individual who served as Executive Assistant to three Northwestern presidents. It is awarded to a graduating Northwestern Connecticut Community College student who is enrolled in a four-year program leading to a degree and, preferably, is a working parent.

 

GEORGE L. SHERWOOD SCHOLARSHIP

The George L. Sherwood Scholarship was established in memory of George L. Sherwood Sr., who was one of the founders of Northwestern Connecticut Community College. The scholarship is awarded to a continuing or graduating NCCC student, who is a history major, has achieved a grade point average 3.5 or better and who is a resident of Northwest Connecticut.
