WINSTED, CT – December 16, 2020 – The research team at Nursing Schools Almanac collected data for 2020, on over 3,000 nursing schools and campuses throughout the United States and has ranked Northwestern Connecticut Community College’s Nursing Program among the 60 best Nursing Schools in New England. NCCC is the only bona fide community college included in the New England listing.
Each Nursing school was evaluated on three critical dimensions: (1) The institution’s academic prestige and perceived value; (2) The breadth and depth of Nursing programs offered; and (3) Student Success particularly on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX). The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) develops the NCLEX examination to test the competency of Nursing school graduates in the U.S. These assessments were combined into an overall score and ranked accordingly.
Nursing Schools Almanac’s mission is to provide aspiring nurses a detailed, comprehensive and analytical resource for selecting their future nursing schools. An integral part of their effort is their annual rankings of the best nursing schools in the country.

Northwestern Connecticut Community College has been ranked Connecticut’s number one community college for five years in a row by WalletHub. The school’s Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program is part of Connecticut State Community Colleges Nursing Program, which includes six ADN programs across the state’s community college system. NCCC’s nursing students are admitted in January and graduate in May of the following year. This unique, accelerated, four-semester 65-credit program of study, prepares students to take the NCLEX-RN licensure examination. Over the past eight years, NCCC graduates have achieved a strong 91% first-time pass rate on the exam. Most graduates assume the position of registered nurse at local healthcare providers, including hospitals, clinics, and long-term care facilities.
