WINSTED, CT – December 19, 2019 –  Northwestern Connecticut Community College (NCCC) has been placed  by Nursing School Almanac in its recently released 2019 rankings, among  the best Nursing Schools in  New England.  NCCC’s Nursing Program has been rated #55 in the New England region.  Christopher McMillen Editor-in-chief of Nursing Schools Almanac, shared that they collected data on more than 3,000 institutions, and only 20% made the list of the best Nursing Schools in each geographic region. Each Nursing School in the region was evaluated on three dimensions: (1) The institution’s academic prestige and perceived value; (2) The breadth and depth of Nursing Programs offered; (3) Student success, particularly on the National Council Licensure Examination – Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN).  These assessments were combined into an overall score and ranked accordingly.

NCCC’s Nursing Program offers students an accelerated 18-month (68 credits) course of study consisting of four consecutive semesters.  Students are admitted in January and graduate in May of the following year.  A graduate of the Nursing program is awarded an Associate in Science degree and is eligible to take the NCLEX-RN.  Over the past eight years, NCCC graduates have achieved a strong 91% first-time pass rate on the exam. Most graduates assume the position of registered nurse at local healthcare providers, including hospitals clinics and long-term care facilities.

Constance Hotchkiss, MSN, RN, Division Director of Nursing, Allied Health and Veterinary Technology at Northwestern Connecticut Community College, responding to the accolade said, “This is wonderful news, I am very proud of everyone who plays a part in admitting, advising, counselling, supporting, teaching and mentoring our students to make the successful journey to graduation.  A huge thank you to the talented nursing faculty and adjuncts who go above and beyond to help our students reach their goal and realize their dream of becoming a nurse.”

Nursing Schools Almanac’s stated mission is to provide aspiring nurses a detailed, comprehensive, and analytical resource for selecting their future Nursing School.  An integral part of this effort is their annual rankings of the best nursing schools in the country.

Dr. Michael Rooke, NCCC’s President added, “Congratulations to our Nursing Department and our Nursing students!  While we already know how amazing you are, it is always wonderful to get confirmation from an outside source.”
