WINSTED, CT – September 14, 2020 – Northwestern Connecticut Community College is pleased to announce the creation of a Pre-Nursing Scholarship in honor of recently retired Professor Alison Jassen.   Professor Jassen taught Biology and Chemistry at the college for thirty years and is an NCCC alumna.  She is passionate about the community’s need for well-educated nurses and other health care professionals and although she is retired, she continues to teach Anatomy and Physiology part-time at the college.

In addition to teaching chemistry, and many courses in biology, she devoted a great deal of time to advising students who wished to pursue careers in health care.  Over the years she helped to prepare students for college programs in dietetics, radiology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, dental hygiene, and nursing.  Prior to the establishment of Northwestern’s Nursing program, Professor Jassen managed a cooperative program that provided NCCC’s pre-nursing students with seats in Naugatuck Valley Community College’s Nursing program.

In her spare time, she has helped people who are facing health problems to understand what their doctors are telling them and what their medical test results mean in order to facilitate better communication between the patient and their doctor. This scholarship honors her service to the college and community and will provide part-time pre-nursing students with funds to help cover educational costs.

Donations to the Alison Jassen Pre-Nursing Scholarship can be sent to the College Business Office in care of Kim Dragan, Director of Finance, at Northwestern Connecticut Community College.
