Alum Luis Sanchez: Making an Impact at the Chamber and in the Community

When Luis Sanchez graduated from Northwestern in Spring 2023, he addressed his fellow graduates as student speaker and challenged them to continue to believe in themselves and their future.

More than a year after graduating, Sanchez believes in the impact he is making in the community and on his future through his work at the Northwest CT Chamber of Commerce. Sanchez has been working for a year as a business development associate, managing all social media platforms as well as member engagement.

“I help brainstorm and improve current and potential programs to better engage with our audience,” he says. “I also manage our media production and lead many of the Chamber’s initiatives; creating new events and programs that serve the community.”

Northwestern welcomed Alum Luis Sanchez back this Spring to bring greetings to the 2024 graduating class from the BOR in his role as Student Regent at the state University level. Sanchez transferred to Central CT State University after graduating from Northwestern and will continue his studies there again this Fall, majoring in Management Information Systems.

But Sanchez says his role at the Chamber, and working with the business community, has influenced his goals and future direction.

“Working in the business community has greatly impacted my trajectory. Learning about businesses and how they function is truly fascinating to me,” he says. “The experience I’ve gained at the Chamber, in terms of how to carry myself and interact with people, has been vital in my pursuit of education.”

Sanchez says that working at the Chamber and serving the community has been very rewarding.

“I have been closely working with business owners, highlighting their businesses and the work they do in the community,” he says. “Additionally, I have partnered with different organizations to attract younger audiences to the Chamber. I love that I can connect and interact with like-minded individuals and learn from many business owners in the area.”

He added that working at the Chamber has given him a close community connection that has strengthened his desire to stay and work within his community once he graduates.

“I am grateful for the opportunities I have had to learn and grow within the Chamber,” he says. “I am excited to continue contributing to the community and making a positive impact.”

As we look ahead, let's remember the obstacles we've faced and the power we have within us. With hard work and determination, anything is possible. Northwestern Alum Luis Sanchez; May ’23 graduation speech
