NCCC Remembrance & Memorial Garden

Purpose:  Erected in May 2019, the garden was being built by students as a space for reflection and remembrance of those who had have a lasting impact on Northwestern. After the unfortunate passing of Steve Rines in 2018, students wished to plant a memorial not only in his honor but a place for to remember anyone who has left their footprint here at NCCC.

Location: The hillside behind Greenwoods Hall.

Description of  the Garden: Custom bricks placed in a rectangle are engraved with the names or groups of those wished to be remembered or recognized. Plants include Yellow Tulips, Honeysuckle bushes,  Dakota Sunspot bush, John F. Kennedy Roses, Virginia Sweetspire, & a Cleveland Flowering Pear Tree. All of the plants that bloom provide for Green & Yellow (NCCC’s Colors) and white.

Ongoing Expenses– Custom bricks (order form below) are being sold to fund the garden and to provide for ongoing expenses to maintain the garden.  Payments can be made NCCC with “Remembrance Garden” in the memo line and sent to student activities with the order form completed.  After the initial installation this spring bricks will be placed at an annual ceremony each fall.  You may purchase a brick to honor more than one person and purchase as a group, so long as it fits on the request form.

Don’t want a brick but still wish to donate? Please send a check payable to NCCC with “Remembrance Garden” in the memo line. Donations can be mailed to NCCC  2 Park Place East, Winsted, CT 06098 Attn: Student Activities.
