The New Direct Support Professional Certificate Program is Being Offered at No Cost to Current NCCC Students

WINSTED, CT – September 26, 2016 - The Direct Support Professional Certificate Program prepares students to enter the human service field working with individuals with disabilities. The 40-hour program will offer students the opportunity to learn from agency providers who have developed the curriculum, as well as from individuals with disabilities to gain a real life perspective of the roles, responsibilities and requirements that are needed to work in the field. The sequence of course outcomes will include an overview of disabilities, cultural competence, health and safety, self-advocacy, person centered planning, community integration, job development and job coaching. Students will have the opportunity to job shadow in both residential and employment settings and to identify career pathways for advancement to the human services certificate and human services degree.

Instructors are leaders in their field and manage programs at local agencies serving people with disabilities.

Course pre-requisite: Students should possess high school level reading and math skills and basic computer competency.

Financial assistance is available to qualified individuals through the SNAP Scholarship. For more information or to register for this class, contact Jane Williams, Program Coordinator, at or call (860) 738-6444.
